In the immediate post-war period, during Italy’s golden age, a noble French family moved to Lake Garda and decided to build a unique residence inspired by the Scaligero Castle of Lazise. Count Vidar de S. Claire, a man of rather eccentric taste, was so enchanted by the place that he stayed there permanently for about 30 years. In 1980, the Vanessi family (led by “Grandfather” Arduino) acquired the property, transforming it into a hospitality structure by carefully renovating the interior and exterior spaces, while preserving the original architectural features of what is now known as “The Castle”. Towards the end of the 1980s, the current Dependance was built — a small modern building with a charming view of Lake Garda, located about 80 meters from the main structure. The property also features a small pool with a glimpse of the lake, available to guests to cool off on warm summer days, typical of the Lake Garda climate.
